Hershey Medical Center- Support Services Building

The new 37,000 square foot Support Services Building at the Penn State Hershey Medical Center will accept and distribute materials and supplies for the medical campus. The building provides space for materials management, environmental health, support services, office space, facility shops, a paint spray area with special exhaust and a vehicle service area.

The new building is situated on a triangular shaped site. Extensive site work and road realignment was necessary to redirect campus roads around the building, to provide parking for the building’s future occupants and to effectively manage traffic flow of patients and visitors to the medical campus without impacting deliveries and campus operations.

The 2-1/2 story building is a structural steel frame with metal panel and curtainwall exterior walls. A partial basement was constructed over and adjacent to an existing utility service tunnel. A new opening was created into the tunnel to allow materials to now move into and out of the new building through the tunnel to the main hospital complex. The project has been designed to achieve LEED Certification.
