Healthcare and CCRC
Phased construction of a 1-story addition above and a 3-story addition adjacent to the Health Services Wing, and renovation of the ground floor housing the Radiology/Oncology and Information Services Departments. The project was carefully planned and phased to minimize impacts to patients and staff in occupied areas.
The new cancer pavilion features treatment infusion units, patient exam rooms, procedure rooms, physicians’ offices, pharmacy, and a 2-story glass-enclosed atrium. The addition also includes a 3,100 square foot penthouse with two dedicated air handling units serving the new and existing areas. Temporary feeds and tie-ins were provided to ensure the existing roof-top mechanical equipment continued to serve the ground floor offices and medical unit while the new additions were constructed. The new equipment was connected to existing and new ductwork and control systems and the existing equipment was then disconnected and removed off site.
Renovation of the ground floor involved both interior modifications as well as a complex structural retrofit to modify the building structure from a CMU load bearing system to a structural steel frame. This retrofit required a detailed shoring design that enabled the demolition of existing load-bearing walls and the installation of new concrete footings and steel columns, all while supporting the existing structure and new addition. The revitalized floor plan includes new partitions, flooring, ceilings, and MEP systems. Renovations were phased to accommodate relocation of staff and patient services and to maintain operation of the CT and Linear Accelerator throughout construction.
