Municipal
Pennsylvania Turnpike Central Administration Building

Renovation of an existing four-story, 112,000 square foot building and the construction of a 50,000 square foot addition. Raised access floors serve as distribution conduits for HVAC systems, electric service, telecommunications, and data cabling, while allowing for flexible work space configuration. 368 workstations are equipped with personal environmental controls, task lighting, sound masking, and fiber-optics. The facility includes 19 conference rooms, 6 training rooms, a full service cafeteria, and locker/shower rooms. A three-story atrium serves as both exhibit space and employee breakout areas.

The new facility is known as a “green” building, having been constructed largely with recycled  or ecologically friendly methods and materials. The facility is LEED Version 2 Certified by the U.S. Green Building Council (www.usgbc.org). Energy responsive building techniques include the use of high performance glass, a highly insulated exterior enclosure, energy efficient HVAC systems, water-saving plumbing fixtures, solar control devices, comfort zone design, natural lighting, and reuse of existing materials such as wood panels, marble, and granite.
